2008 BMW 7 Series Review, Pictures & Video

BMW’s flagship car, the 7 Series, is a full-size luxury vehicle produced with the customer needs in mind. This car is only available as a Sedan and comes in the regular wheelbase 750 trim, a limited-assembly V12 760 trim that comes only in an extended wheelbase and the high-performance Alpina B7, which is based on the shorter wheelbase.
Let’s start with the inner cabin. Five people can easily fit into the two rows of seating that are doused in beautiful leather upholstery. A pioneering audio system keeps the passengers at ease, as well as the advanced automatic front climate control and air system does. The iDrive system controls a variety of vehicle aspects from an LCD panel and controller knob that sit on the dashboard and center console, respectively. Some of these systems include the Navigation System, the stereo and more. Other technologies found with the 2008 models include keyless entry, door brakes, Bluetooth capabilities, an On-board computer, cruise control and the list continues. The high performance Alpina B7 trim gets everything the other trims get but with heated seats, rear passenger sunshades, auto-closing doors, a 13-speaker stereo system and various cosmetic improvements made to the inner trims and accents.
The 750 trims get an impressive 4.8-liter V8 engine that can generate 360 horsepower and the 760 gets a V12 capable of 438 horsepower. The high performance B7 again gets an upper hand in terms of technology with its modified supercharged V8 that delivers a groundbreaking 500 horsepower and 516 pounds-feet of torque. BMW claims that the B7 can go from 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds and can reach up to 186 mph. All of the models use a six-speed Steptronic automatic transmission that has semi-manual control options. All of this power comes with protection luckily. BMW offers a first and second row inflatable tubular Head Protection System that replaces the side curtain airbag function. Side impact airbags are standard in the front and optional in the back; the standard frontal airbags are also present. There is also active Knee Protection standard on the 2008 models. Further safety features include adaptive brake lights, a tire pressure monitoring system, antilock brakes and more.
This sleek, strapping and safe sedan can really hold its own on the road. The high-powered engines give it enough push to accelerate fast, the intelligently designed chassis provides excellent handling and the added technologies make it a breeze to drive. All of the convenience features really add further dimension to the driving experience. The Adaptive Brake Lights help cross-car communication greatly, the dashboard display’s night vision makes nighttime driving safer, the massaging seats keep everyone alleviated and the options just keep going. The 2008 BMW 7 Series really outdoes the standard.
