BMW Concept Lab Celebrates 25th Anniversary

The BMW “Think Tank” responsible for some of the most interesting concepts, Technik, is celebrating their 25 years of designing for the German Auto Maker. BMW Technik GmbH has been brainstorming concept cars since they began work on the BMW Z1 Coupe design study shown off in 1988. The automaker released a thorough write-up of BMW Technik’s history, as well as a 5m 42s video about the think tank’s functions.

Technik Think Tank led to the production versions of the Z1 Roadster, as well as the BMW Z3 and Z4. The group also conducted research on the BMW 1-series fuel-cell hybrid, and the 2001 BMW Z29 concept. The Z29 was capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds, with a weight-to-power ratio of 3.4 kg/hp.
