Production BMW M1?

Production BMW M1?

CAR magazine’s July issue is suggesting that the BMW M1 concept, revealed on the vehicle’s 30th anniversary, may actually make it to a dealer near you. Herbert Diess, a BMW board member, stated in an interview that the automaker has the necessary infrastructure in place to make the car, and a suitable engine. This may be BMW’s answer to Audi’s R8, and with Lexus’ super car on the horizon, there may be a super car battle royale brewing.

The recent incarnation of the M1 is not something you’ll see at a local Orange County BMW lot – it takes some styling cues from previous generations, but with a significantly more aggressive look at virtually every angle. There’s no specifications, or interior designs, so anything at this point is speculation. But if the super car market can handle Lamborghini, Ferrari, Audi, Lexus and even Tesla, then expect BMW to produce something as a reminder of what they’re made of.
