BMW Stolen from Detroit Auto Show, No One Surprised

A 7-Series BMW was stolen from the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, and no one is shocked. According to Jalopnik – The 7-Series, valued at somewhere between $90,000 and $140,000, was one of 19 cars BMW brought to the show to haul executives around town. The jackers swiped the sedan as it was being loaded on a hauler across the street from a downtown hotel.

It’s High Security with a BMW 7 Series Armored Car

We’ve already written about the BMW X5 Security crossover – well now Germany’s auto maker is bringing about the next phase in high-class safety: The 2010 BMW 7-Series High Security Luxury Sedan. Hailed as the “Ultimate Security Machine” BMW hopes their 7-Series Armored Car will give comfort and ease in the transport of dignitaries, presidents and James Bond Villains. This vehicle is actually two: a BMW 760Li High Security and the BMW 750Li High Security. So, look at it this way – not only is it without a doubt the safest car on any road, you’re getting two for the price of one!

BMW’s 7-Series Security Car has more buttons in the dash then KITT from Knight Rider. An intercom system with concealed microphones and speakers, “assault” alarm and fire-extinguishing system for cooling fires in the engine compartment, as well as below the vehicle. Gas (as in tear gas) sensors automatically close all windows, activate the central locking system, shut the fresh air valves and shut off ventilation systems, while internal fresh-air supply system pump breathable air. BMW offers up a center console gun case with compartments for two machine guns…NICE!

Outside, both driver and passengers are protected by bullet-resistant glass and special steel armor mounted in the doors, roof, pillars, front footwell and separation wall between passenger & trunk. And yes, the undercarriage is armored with special plating, “developed with a particular focus on maximum explosion protection.” But no, we have no clue how much the car weighs.

BMW Alpina B7 in Pictures

BMW has unveiled their all new Alpina B7 Special Edition (the the 7-Series line up, that is) at 2009′s Geneva Auto Show. Along with being one of the sexists SE BMW’s to come from the German Auto Maker in years, this highly tuned 4.4 liter V8 sedan has a top speed of 174 miles per hour (on the books, anyway) with over 500 horse power! With a 0-to-60 time of under 5 seconds it is easy to see why BMW fans are more than ready to have a shot of this street legal German pony.

BMW Alpina B7

According to German Car Fans: Typical Alpina trim can be expected inside and outside as partly seen from the well known signature Alpina multispoke rims and rear boot spoiler. Technical upgrades should include stronger brakes and a sportier chassis. Stayed tuned for a report back from Geneva 2009 as we check out crowd reactions to the Alpina B7.
